
It’s a hard road to a clean energy future. We’ll need a lot of great ideas, like the HyPower™ system, to get there.
Right now there are whole classes of technologies that are excluded from Federal tax credits or rebates. Any vehicle technology which was not proven in 2005 is excluded. This means that working trucks, like ours, have no economical choice except to pollute.
In our business we don’t drive a lot of miles. Our trucks sit while workers service power lines. In normal vehicles, when it’s working the engine is running. In a year most of these utility trucks use more than a thousand gallons of fuel – while sitting still.
One Thousand Gallons
What does a thousand gallons of wasted fuel mean? It means more than 10 tons of pollution. This is pollution we don’t have to produce. And it’s not only utilities service trucks that work this way.
Imagine all of the construction equipment, garbage trucks and farm equipment that we use. These machines work instead of move. Hybrids for this work should be designed differently than Hybrid cars. That’s what the Terex® HyPower™ system is. A better solution for a different problem.

The HyPower™ system sounds great! Why isn’t everyone using it?
The entire class of technologies that HyPower™ system is a part of does not get the same incentives as other Hybrids. The current law denies funding to any Hybrid that does not help move the vehicle, regardless of how much fuel they save.
